CELLMetric launches Radius 4.1 DVB-T/H Micro Base Station at IBC in Amsterdam

09 September 2009
Radius 4.1 with ProMPEG CoP3 IP input provides quick digital TV deployment with minimum set-up requirements

9th September, 2009 –  Cambridge, UK and Amsterdam, The Netherlands – CELLMetric,  the intelligent digital broadcast solutions company, announces the launch of its new IP feed Digital Video Broadcast micro base station for the DVB-T and DVB-H standards at IBC this week in Amsterdam.  The Radius 4.1 DVB-T/H Micro Base Station only needs mains power and a lamp post for simple and quick digital TV deployment.

CELLMetric’s Radius 4.1 is designed to cost effectively provide digital terrestrial RF transmission coverage in remote areas shadowed from main network transmissions.  With the increasing use of Internet Protocol (IP) transmission within DVB networks’ core transmission feed networks, the Radius 4.1 allows simple remote connection to their core network over wired or wireless IP links to provide infill to remote villages and  shadowed urban areas.

The Radius 4.1 is a highly portable and rugged, waterproof and convection cooled unit, and only 250mm W x 300mm H x 430mm L in size.  The compact unit can be deployed quickly with minimal site preparation.  Designed to be wall or pole mounted the base station provides a Pro MPEG CoP 3 IP to transport stream transcoder together with a DVB-T/H COFDM modulator and power amplifier with filters.

Operational control of the Radius 4.1 is provided via a secure web interface which provides complete control and monitoring of the unit in the field.  This includes control of the RF transmission parameters, IP transmission statistics, and environmental operating conditions including temperature and humidity of the unit.

Radius 4.1 offers a unique, integrated, rugged transmission system which cost effectively solves the challenge of remote area digital TV coverage. Other options for the Radius system include ASI input, satellite input and on channel repeater operation.

CELLMetric will be attending IBC2009 in Amsterdam, 11th – 15th September, where it will be showcasing its DVB-H, DVB-T, DVB-S/S2 and DAB/DAB+ products.  To schedule a meeting at IBC, please email ibc09@cellmetric.co.uk.

About CELLMetric

CELLMetric - (Cell - Macro Cellular broadcast systems) (Metric - application of measurement algorithms to provide intelligence to broadcast systems)

Founded in 2005, CELLMetric was formed with a goal to develop innovative, intelligent and cost effective solutions to meet the challenges of digital TV switchover, mobile video and 4G LTE Cellular deployment.

Drawing on the expertise of a highly experienced team of systems, software, RF and VLSI engineers with extensive experience in digital TV and mobile communications, CELLMetric is developing a range of modular solutions, including: repeater systems, micro base stations and the Modus I/Q RF signal sources for network emulation. Key to these systems is CELLMetric’s Software Defined Digital Radio architecture and “Application Specific I/Q™” modules which allow efficient customisation of this architecture using plug and play channel coders.

All CELLMetric’s products blend a mix of fast processors, FPGAs, and broadband RF digital radio to provide intelligent, self-measuring transmission systems.

CELLMetric is currently working in the areas of:

    • DVB-T
    • DVB-H
    • DAB
    • DAB+
    • T-DMB
    • DVB-S
    • DVB-S2
    • DVB-T2
    • LTE

CELLMetric’s patented architectures are highly modular, allowing the efficiencies of engineering reuse to be gained.
CELLMetric =

    • Easy to install
    • Easy to operate
    • Easy to maintain

CELLMetric was formed in 2005 by Graham Norgett, one of the founders of Symbionics Instruments, later Adherent Systems, which developed a significant market share in the DECT and DVB MPEG test systems market.  Adherent, where Norgett was Marketing Director, was sold in 2001 to a major US based T&M multinational.

CELLMetric is a privately held limited company.
